Heritage Is What Gives Our Towns, Buildings and Places Life

When we think about heritage, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?
For most people it’ll be the usual; castles, brochs, archaeology and the like. The physical things that are noticeably really old and play a significant, tangible and visible role in our historic environment.
But what about the things we can’t see, or even necessarily explain? What about our traditions, the local stories passed down through generations, or the different languages and dialects we speak?
For me, heritage is so much more than the physical; it is also the intangible cultural heritage which gives our towns, buildings and places life.
It’s important that we involve cultural heritage in the conversations we have about preservation . Our cultural heritage is best preserved by the those who live and breathe these stories and traditions every day in the communities from where they originate.
Perth and Kinross is an incredibly diverse county. The range of local customs and cultures we have is unique and something to take pride in. Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust work hard to ensure that every aspect of heritage across the county is represented, cherished and protected.
To do that, we need your thoughts and opinions.
Tell us what we need to be doing to make sure your heritage is championed and preserved. Your voice as a person and as a member of a community is important to us.
Working alongside the communities of Perth and Kinross is central to how our new Strategic Plan for 2026-31 will operate. Your input matters, and by working together we can build a Strategic Plan for the heritage of Perth and Kinross that we all have ownership of.
