PKHT and Perth Young Archaeologists’ Club have joined forces! The Club is for children aged 8-16 with an interest in archaeology and history, with a programme of hands-on activities through the year.

Perth Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is one of many branches of the Young Archaeologists’ Club across the UK for children who enjoy archaeology and history.

Perth YAC meets once a month between April and December for hands-on activities and events – please see our programme in Related Downloads for an idea of what we do. This year, the programme is themed around the history and archaeology of Perth to join in the Perth800 celebrations.

Last year’s activities included: a walk along the Gask Ridge looking at Roman watchtowers, followed by a Roman-style picnic with The Antonine Guard; a visit to Loch Tay during the construction of a replica logboat; willow working and basketry; field-walking in Strathearn; and for older members, the opportunity to take part in the Black Spout homestead archaeological excavation.

If you are interested in joining Perth YAC then please contact the Heritage Officer. Information for parents and guardians about YAC branches can be downloaded below. The Club meets at Perth Museum and Art Gallery for the first and last meeting of each year.  For events that are further afield, the Club runs a minibus from Perth. Membership of Perth YAC is £10 per year though a contribution e.g. towards entrance fees of historic sites may be required.

Perth YAC is kindly supported by grant and contribution in-kind from Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust, Perth Museum and Art Gallery and the Council for British Archaeology.
