| A guided tour of Ardoch Roman Fort |
The historic environment is fundamental in defining a sense of place about where we live, and in creating a sense of identity. In addition, archaeology and historic buildings provide an excellent focus and resource for life-long learning and recreation, being popular both with visitors and local communities. The promotion of the heritage resource of the area is an important, and ever developing, aspect of the work of the Trust. Central to this is our series of A5 popular booklets (see publications page), covering various aspects of the historic environment, and the organisation of three major outreach programmes each year: Doors Open Day, Perthshire Archaeology Month and Exploring Perthshire's Past. In addition, the Trust also gives regular talks and presentations to local groups and interested organisations, and produces both leaflets and on-site interpretation for sites. Doors Open Day in Perth and Kinross celebrates the annual European Heritage Day when over forty countries open thousands of their most historic and interesting buildings to inspire interest in the architectural heritage. Perthshire Archaeology Month is an annual month long programme of events promoting public involvement in the archaeology of the area through guided walks, talks, activities and displays. Finally, Exploring Perthshire's Past! is a year-round series of events, guided walks and practical projects with the aim of providing opportunities for the public to get more involved with archaeology and historic buildings - click on the link to the right to find out more...
