Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust provides planning archaeology services.

Scottish Planning Policy 23 - Planning and the Historic Environment and Scottish Historic Environment Policy set out guidelines for the stewardship of archaeological sites and historic buildings through the planning system. Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust provides a planning archaeology service to Perth and Kinross Council and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park to ensure the protection, conservation and enhancement of the historic environment within Perth and Kinross.

The Trust assesses the potential impact of proposed development on the historic environment through the consideration of all planning applications. Mitigation measures are recommended where development is likely impact on either known or potential archaeological sites. Depending on the impact of the development, mitigation measures may include protection of remains, standing building survey, trial trenching, excavation, post-excavation analysis and publication. Usually this requires the developer to contract a professional archaeologist to undertake archaeological work through conditions attached to planning consent.

Developers can contact the Heritage Officer for advice on the implications of future development and for archaeological information within a proposed development site. Please note a charge may be levied for time taken to compile archaeological information.
